Every day on social media, we see an end number of animals suffering; dogs are beaten, puppies are burnt, rats are killed, lions are chained.

A man is crossing his limits for the sake of money. Monkeys are chained, tortured to behave in a certain way so that a person could feed himself. People who are supposed to take care of them are doing atrocities. How selfish we are! Safevoices.com suggests animal abuse or animal cruelty is the crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity are for normal discipline. It can include neglect that is so monstrous (withholding food and water) that the animal has suffered, died or been put in imminent danger of death. In simple words, animal abuse means inflicting animals with pain, harm or violence.

Dr Albert Schweitzer, a humanitarian says, ”Anyone who has accustomed himself to regard the life of any living creature as worthless is in danger of arriving also at the idea of worthless human lives.”A study conducted by Northeastern University and the Massachusetts SPCA in the US found that people who abuse animals are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against humans. Behavioural profiles of criminals by the FBI have consistently shown that many serial murderers and rapists had abused animals in their childhood.

Back then in the 1880-the 90s, laws were made by Britishers and there we find catching and killing any unowned street dogs. Those unowned dogs were kept for 24-48 hours, if someone would come and take the dog home, it would be fine otherwise the adult dogs were killed by giving electroshocks with high voltage current and the puppies were gassed with chloroform.

Thousands of healthy and young greyhound dogs are killed every year because these dogs lack racing potential. A man killed a dog for a TikTok video. In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, a 55-year-old man was found raping the cow in CCTV footage.

In Kerala, a pregnant elephant ate the pineapple filled with crackers and it was too late when the rescue team reached there. A puppy was scalded with boiling water thrown at it in China. Animals must be protected and loved, there are people who do not like animals and that is totally understandable but killing animals is not the solution. Animals cannot speak but if we see, they carry pain. Imagine someone slapping you, one cannot bear that. Think about what we are doing to animals. They just want some love, nothing else. They say, “ feed a dog once, it would never forget you.”

Lewis J. Comuti quotes, “Never believe that animals suffer less pain than humans. Pain is the same for them what it is for us. Even worse, because they cannot help themselves.”
