Cruelty | Animals | 3rd December 2021 | Virtual Wire
Cruelty means behaviour that harms others physically or mentally. But it's a matter of shame that we only consider human beings when it comes to cruelty.
We forget that animals are also living creatures and we should not be cruel to them. Just because these creatures can’t express themselves as we do, we forget that what we are doing to them if someone does to us, we will die. Animal abuse is a sadly overlooked issue that can affect not only pets, but livestock, racehorses, circus animals, and the poor animals used in laboratories
People believe that they have a right on the lives of the animals and they can treat them in any way they want to whereas animals are creatures who are capable of showing love and affection, taking care of their health and nutrition is the moral duty of every human. Animal cruelty is a very sensitive and serious issue. Pain is felt by each and every living organism, be it humans or animals. The brutal action against innocent creatures is rarely acknowledged and very few people feel the urge of raising their voice against animal cruelty.
Humans misuse their power and lack feelings of love and compassion towards the animals. Animals do not have any rights of their own, they do not have a voice to protect themselves from cruelty, thus they go through unspeakable sufferings daily. Just as humans, even animals deserve to lead a happy and painless life. Animals respond back with all their love and affection and would make sure that no harm reaches us. Animals are an important part of our daily life, they are companions for someone, for someone they are security.
The only way to take animals off the streets is by creating proper animal shelters where they’d be provided with food. Also, creating effective awareness is necessary. We must understand that co-existence and harmony between humans and animals are essential for our planet’s survival. We must be more responsible and protective towards animals. We must learn to love them.
Laws that protect animals are:-
IPC Section 428 & 429.
Section 11 (1)(i) & Section 11(1)(j), PCA Act, 1960.
Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Section 22(ii), PCA Act, 1960.
Rules 148 - C and 135 - B of Drugs & Cosmetics, 1945.
Along with the laws, social awareness is also required. To raise awareness about animal cruelty one can:-
