With the decision of the Environment Ministry to ban polythene and plastic lunch sheets and shopping bags, local manufactures made eco-friendly new products on easily perishable materials.
Two young entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka come forward to produce eco-friendly lunch sheets and shopping bags using manioc (tapioca), a local edible yam that discomposes easily and quickly. And also various manufactures are interested in introducing eco-friendly, chemical-free lunch sheets and shopping bags that dispose of quickly.
Moreover, billions of lunch sheets and shopping bags released into the environment which caused huge damage to the environment. 99% of those bags purchased directly to the environment.
Therefore the Minister instructed the Central Environment Authority in Sri Lanka to take steps to encourage eco-friendly products.
