When it comes to social media, we can easily coin it's essence with this phrase 'connection made easy'.
Not only are we able to make new friends easily, but we are also able to build relationships that would have otherwise been impossible without the invention of various social media platforms. That's good news, right?
Well, as beautiful and fun as this is, there's the other side of the coin that we mustn't ignore. It's not the over flogged time wastage, nor is it the vanity it emphasises. Rather, It's the subtle twist it places on people's minds when it comes to the value they place on their friendships.
In a bid to avoid having people all over our business, some of us have ended up forgetting how to let our actual friends into the goings of our lives.
We shield our lives from the public eyes and at the same time, mistakenly forget to let our loved ones in. The very same people who would have happily joined in our joys, and shared in our sorrows are at a loss because somehow they've been tagged alongside the acquaintances that shouldn't know shit about us.
How sad! Here's what I suggest though, that while we engage people from all sorts of life via social media, and while we give these people sneak peeks into the inconsequential details of our lives as well, let's not forget to show our real friends how valuable they are to us.
They may be far or near, it doesn't mean we shouldn't make the effort to tell them they aren't in the same category as 'acquaintances' from social media.
