The best gift you can give your loved ones is the gift of your time. Spending time with your family and friends is worth more than any gift money can buy.
Sometimes, parents try to trade their time with their kids, by buying them expensive items. They sometimes go as far as making their kids feel guilty for requesting time with them.
On the other hand, you find kids who care less about spending time with their aged parents because they feel they have better things to do. I can't blame them much. I sometimes fall into this trap myself.
How do you create a balance? I mean how do you tell your loved ones that you really care even when you can't spend as much time as they'll love you too, or as you'll want to. I think one thing we can do is; be there when we really do have that time. Let your absence not be the norm.
You hear people who are offended by the partners who ask them to spend time with them. They can't fathom why their presence is that important when they can provide anything else they might need.
One reason this may be the case could be that they were not an opportunity to live with people who valued being with each other and made extra effort to be around each other. Why that can be a valid point, we mustn't make it the ultimate excuse.
Our time should always be seen as one of our most valued possessions. But better than that, is the people we've been blessed with. Appreciate your time.
