Happiness and success are some of the most sought-after experiences. Daily routines are usually busy with tasks, making it hard to find time to be happy and prosperous, but there are ways to find success in your daily routine.

Personal development and goal setting can help you become a much more fulfilled person. In this post, I'll share some of the most important things to know regarding personal development and goal setting. Personal development is the process of developing oneself in relation to their character, skills, or profession. It's not just about growing in your career; it can also be about scaling back work hours or looking for a job that provides more significant opportunities for personal growth.

Goal setting is crucial because if you don't have a clear idea of what you want and where you want to go, how will you get there? Setting goals helps us focus our energy on doing things we believe will lead us towards our desired outcomes. With this framework in place, we're more likely to feel happier. Recently I decided to change careers. For most of my adult life, I have been a financial professional. When I experienced a job loss during the COVID-19 Pandemic, I began to question if this is the industry that brings me joy. Am I satisfied with my current career trajectory?

The long hours, pay fluctuations, and dealing with overly demanding, often hostile clients, left me feeling drained at the end of every day. Being a single mom to two boys, feeling drained every day is a horrible situation for a parent. I missed out on games, school events, and often I wondered if my career was hindering me from being a good mom. After some self-reflection, I decided that I could balance a rewarding career with my family life. While I was undergoing this life change, I implemented some of the following steps to aid my personal development.

Happiness is defined as the state of being happy or content. As humans, we all seek happiness. We all want to be able to experience the feeling of contentment, joy, and fulfillment. However, what does it mean to be happy? Is there a universal definition of happiness? The concept of happiness is subjective. It means different things for different people. What may make someone happy on one day might not make them happy on another day.

Our definition of happiness changes as we develop and grow as human beings. It can also be said that your daily habits dictate your life. So, if you want to be happy and prosperous, it's essential to identify what habits will lead you towards happiness. Before I could find contentment, I needed to uncover what my joy was. Once I understood how I viewed happiness, I changed my behaviors to achieve this goal.

The following are 7 Daily Activities that helped me feel happier and more successful.

  • Physical Activity: Do you notice that on lazy days, you just feel gloomy? When you increase physical activity, your body increases the production of chemicals that reduce stress and make you feel pleasure.

  • Meditation: Studies show that meditators have increased levels of gray matter in the prefrontal cortex, which is linked to better memory and higher EQs.

  • Gratitude Journaling: Research has shown that people who write down three things they are grateful for each day are more energetic and optimistic than those who don't.

  • Food Journaling: If you keep track of what you eat, it's much easier to find out what foods and uncover unhealthy emotions that may be connected to eating. Food journaling is a part of mindful eating that can help you lose weight and help you overcome negative triggers in your diet.

  • Practising Self-Care: Selfcare is a vital tool to manage your mood. Studies have shown that self-care activities reduce stress, improve concentration, eliminate anger, overcome depression, increase happiness and enhance energy.

  • Affirmations: Affirmations are positive statements that you make to yourself about yourself. They can be phrases, sentences, or sets of words that you repeat to change your attitudes and behaviors more positively. Affirmations can be potent when they are used correctly and consistently. Affirmations can improve self-confidence and self-esteem, lower stress levels and anxiety, reduce depression and increase positivity.

  • Set Boundaries: This was probably the hardest thing for me to do. As a parent, I was familiar with setting boundaries for behavior with my boys. However, I did not always set these exact boundaries with family, friends, and coworkers. When you don’t have established limits eventually, there will be conflict. By establishing set boundaries, I let everyone in my life know behaviors that are acceptable to me.



In conclusion, happiness is a sense of well-being that comes from deep within us. Happiness has a lot to do with our thoughts, emotions, and actions - meaning that it's possible for us to be happy by changing the way we think, feel and act. When we make time to perform acts that acknowledge our feelings and promote positivity, we take steps directing us to achieve our happiness goals.
