Telling stories in the past Much of what we know about storytelling comes from observing how people behave while listening to a story. Storytelling is an activity in which the speaker attempts to create an emotional response in the audience.
Storytelling is also an element of personal growth. It’s why we’re often encouraged to tell our own stories, examine our own motivations and behaviours, and reflect on how others have changed throughout our lives.
What’s a story?
When you engaged in storytelling at work, what were you trying to achieve? It’s a good question and an equally complicated answer. On one level, it’s all about engagement. Engaged in a way that made others pay attention and reflect and inspired those who are thinking more deeply about the world in which they live.
Storytelling requires you to give voice to things that aren’t necessarily easy for you to say out loud – the uncertainty and frailty of being human, for example, or the wonder of creation.
How to craft a good story?
Writing clearly and even well-articulating stories is an essential part of good communication. Storytelling is a way of life. Storytellers know that the truth is more exciting and important than convenient details, and they’re willing to put in the hard work to communicate it gently.
Storytelling requires clear language, an ability to separate topics effectively, and empathy toward the audience. It’s not easy, but here are some valuable tips to help you tell better stories.
There are many ways to tell stories, whether you’re the one telling them or they’re being told by someone else. One technique is called tell them as you mean it. When you tell stories with great care, you’re building up the credibility of your message.

Storytelling is more than just speaking your piece and throwing in a story framework; it’s composing an entire story that makes you stand out from other content on your site. You have to decide what makes this your story and then go out and do it with all of your characters, including myself (above).

You’re also trying to make the audience feel good about themselves. There’s a difference between storytelling and presentation. The presentation uses words and images to create an emotional effect, while storytelling does not. The truth is both can affect how people feel about you and your business.
