Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an approach to communicate, for personal growth, and psychotherapy made by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970s in California, United States.

In simpler terms, it is a psychological approach used by an individual which includes analysis, strategies for reaching a personal goal for self-development. The key elements of Neuro-Linguistic Programming are Communication, Modeling, and action. The individuals who practice NLP analyze their own and others' perspectives and situations to accomplish their tasks or goals. NLP allows a person to change his/her thinking approach and evolve in life. The techniques that one can use to change his/her life are:



Anchoring is the most common and widely used NLP technique. The purpose of anchoring is to relive a positive memory with a willful gesture. When you create an anchor you have created a pattern so that you can feel the way you want and at any time. It is a process of getting connected with some internal feedback with some external or internal activation so that the reaction can be very quick. Anchoring helps you to be more relaxed, confident, and enthusiastic at the same time when you are around a group of people.

For example, when you travel to any beach or mountains you always are very enthusiastic and joyful both inside and outside. If you are having a bad day and everything not going well for you, think of the moment when you were at that beach or mountain, relive that moment in your mind, and you will see the difference in your mood. That particular moment has become an anchor. Anchoring can become a tool for self-empowerment. Anchoring helps you to go jump from a stressful to joyful mood just in a few seconds.

This technique can help you to change the meaning of the situation around you. In NLP it moves around having positive intentions in every situation. This is one of the most effective techniques to change one’s life. These techniques will help you see the best in everything you have gone through or will be going through. Imagine you have been rejected by a company, obviously with this comes so many stressed emotions. But see the best in the hardship, think of the rejection like you will get a job at a better company than that and that job will get you more pay than the company that has rejected you.

You changed your perspective and brought out the positive intentions in the situation you are going through. By bringing a positive attitude you start noticing a change around you and a few days or a few weeks or a few months you have gotten a job in the best company. So by reframing the whole situation you have gotten the better opportunity you were getting before. This technique will help you in coping with some difficult situations life may give you.



Meta-Modelling is the most powerful NLP technique to date. It helps you to understand others’ problems and their root cause. Automatically leading you to find its solution. In this, you ask questions to yourself to challenge the problem which leads to finding a solution for it. Through this technique, one can get to the heart of the matter. For instance, when someone says, “I know you are sad” the first question that pops up in the mind is, How do they know that I am sad. When you think you can’t perform a certain task according to some people. So you should ask yourself questions like, Who are these people? Do they know me and vice-versa? Do their opinion matters? You will automatically lead yourself to the root cause of the problem and then will find a solution to it.



This technique involves creating a safe space and using open communication with others. It includes treading with another person’s reality so that the person feels connected to you wherever they are. It includes creating trust and understanding for each other. You don’t have to like or dislike someone’s interest, you just have to make them understand yours and vice-versa.



It helps someone to change their imagination into their dreams and reality. When someone asks you to describe a situation, you need to describe every aspect of it using all the senses. Some people prefer closing their eyes and extracting all the information out of it, while others try to write it on a piece of paper. If these NLP techniques are used properly and efficiently they will bring you prosperity in life. Thinking and visualizing hold a lot of power in it. You are thinking at every moment in life, you just can’t stop because it is a natural process.

Try thinking positively a whole day and see the difference, people come out with all the possible things of a situation that can go wrong for them and they do happen because they are focusing themselves in that particular negative direction.
