We all are aware of the healthy foods and those which are harmful to us. Nutrition is a major part of human mechanisms, keeping us alive.
Our bodies need food to synthesize energy and work regularly. Although it is crucial to us, we still ignore its importance. We prefer unhealthy foods over healthy foods for the sake of their appealing tastes. Who wouldn't pick a burger over a vegetable salad? Millions of people are following an unhealthy lifestyle which is leading to many GIT diseases and other diseases. In this article, we would be discussing the cruciality of nutritional education and what is a nutritious diet?
What is Nutrition?
Nutrition is the availability of the essential nutrients required by the body to produce energy. It includes all the necessary nutrients like Proteins, Carbs, Vitamins, Minerals, Fats and other essential nutrients. Our body uses these nutrients and produces energy through respiration. These nutrients are the building blocks of the cells in our body. For example, about 20% of our cells are made up of proteins which makes them a necessary part of our diets. Similarly, other nutrients are equally necessary for healthy living.
What is a nutritious diet?
A nutritious diet is a diet that has all the essential nutrients. A nutritious diet should contain approximately 12% to 20% (7 grams) of proteins, 45% to 65% (225 to 325 grams) of carbohydrates, little amounts of Vitamins and little amounts of Fats. Furthermore, our daily fluid intake is also necessary. Our bodies are made up of 70% water. Therefore, we require 8 glasses of water daily. Iron which is a major part of our blood is also required in adequate amounts.
What is a healthy lifestyle?
People often think that losing weight is a way of maintaining good health. Therefore, they work out regularly and cut down those carbs. But this is partially true. Our body weight depends on our height. This is called the BMI ratio. We can calculate it online through different websites. If you are under 18.5 on the BMI scale then you are underweight and above 25.5 you're overweight. Above 30 leads to obesity. Therefore, it helps us to determine a healthy weight for our bodies. Other than that, excluding one nutrient from your diet may not have good effects on your body. Since our body requires an adequate amount of those nutrients. Therefore don't eat less, eat healthily.
Importance of Nutritional Education
Our schools should have a subject that is inclusive of nutrition only. A healthy diet would prevent many diseases. Nutritional education helps countries end malnutrition and undernutrition. There are many small countries that are facing famine. People don't have the basic knowledge of a healthy diet. Even in developed countries, people tend to spend an unhealthy lifestyle, which leads to heart diseases. Obesity is a prevailing problem in most leading countries. People eat too much junk food and consume fizzy drinks in large amounts which are extremely harmful to our bodies. Therefore, nutritional education should be compulsory for everyone in order to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
