Virat Kohli the captain of the Indian cricket team is reputed to be one of the best batsmen of this century. He holds the record for most runs in a single season of IPL.
He was at the peak of his career in 2016 everything he did, worked out fine. He holds the world record for most centuries in a single IPL season. He has been very loyal to his team royal challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he has played for the same team for more than 10 years now. Currently, the purple patch he had earned in 2016 is nowhere to be found he hasn’t scored a single century in more than a year.
He has played a total of 199 matches and scored 6076 runs at an average of 38 runs per match. Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in IPL and is often called Mr. IPL by his fans. His average had gone up to 81.08 in 2016 but slowly dropped over the year and stands at 33 currently. Stating that, it is clear that Virat Kohli was at his best in IPL 2016. Even though he is called the run machine and has played exceedingly well in the past years his team RCB hasn’t won a single IPL tournament though they have cleared to the finals 3 times.
He has scored 4 centuries in a single IPL. He holds the record for the highest average in a single IPL season. He made his IPL debut in 2008 scored a total of 165 runs with an average of 15. He has been consistent since that and has proved himself time and time again. He also holds the world record for most partnership runs in a single match with his team player and friend AB de Villiers who used to play for South Africa. Virat Kohli either opens or comes one down. He has been a part of RCB since the first season of IPL. In 2011 Kohli was the only player retained by RCB and was made the vice-captain.
In which he impressed everyone by scoring a total of 557 runs with an average of 46.41. Though in IPL 2012 his form declined and he was able to score only a total of 364 runs. Virat Kohli was appointed as the captain of RCB in 2013 but he couldn’t take his team to the glory he finished fifth in the table. His form declined after 2019 he hasn’t been able to score as much as he used to and his average dropped from 48 to 33 in 2018-19. His team holds the record for most runs by scoring 263 runs but his team also holds the record for the least runs by getting all out at 49 in the year 2017 against KKR.
He has had a lot of controversies throughout his IPL career and has also faced a lot of criticism. To conclude Virat Kohli's IPL journey has been amazing he has faced a lot of ups and downs and made a lot of records along the way. He is called the run machine for a reason. After being the captain for almost 8 years he has decided to resign though he’ll be a part of a player. He also said that he still wants to play for RCB and will be loyal till his last IPL match. Virat Kohli is a commendable player, he did his best as a captain though he couldn’t win the trophy he won hearts.
