Mexico | 17th June 2021 | Virtual Wire

Sinaloa joined a score of entities that recognize marriage between people of the same sex with the approval of reform in the local Congress.

In a unanimous vote (23 deputies), marriage equality was approved by lawmakers, joining more than half of all Mexican states in making the practice legal.

Mexico City, Campeche, Chihuahua, Colima, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Baja California, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala, Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Puebla, Jalisco, Nuevo León and Aguascalientes, are in the list of states that have already legalized same-sex marriage and now Sinaloa.

The Government will have a period of 60 days to adapt its regulatory provisions to the provisions. For example, the marriage certificate formats issued by the Civil Registry must be adapted.

"Long live to same-sex marriage, long live human rights, long live the rule of law, all people, all rights, respect for the rights of others is peace,” Mexican deputy Graciela Domínguez exclaimed in the plenary session.
