No Record that Animals Transmit Covid-19 – Veterinarians’ Association, Sri Lanka!

Sri Lanka’s Veterinarian’s Association stated that there is no truth in claims that the virus is transmitted through animals.

After infected covid-19 on lion in Dehiwala Zoo Sri Lanka, various rumours circulated that Covid could be transmitted from animals.


However, the chairman of the Sri Lanka Veterinarians Association Dr Urandika Gunawardena said, according to the research conducted on the matter, the covid-19 virus not been identified to be transmitted from animals to humans.


The PCR tests on the matter are currently being conducted under the supervision of Professor Dilan Satharasinghe, Department of Molecular and Biochemistry on faculty of Veterinary Medicine.


The message to the public is there is no record that virus can be transmitted to humans by pets living in their homes, but the investigations are ongoing.


Furthermore, Dr. Dilan Satharasinghe said that if the person shows any symptoms, they should keep away from their pets in order not to infect them.
