In 2010, Lilly Singh started a YouTube channel under the alias of “IISuperwomanII.” In her videos, she entertained millions of viewers with her humour & funny take on topics such as job interviews, parenting, dating, clubbing & her own childhood stories. She’s done hit collaboration videos with fellow YouTubers such as Liza Koshy, Markiplier & D-Trix of theDOMINICshow. She also had famous cameos in her videos such as Alicia Keys, Zendaya, Winnie Harlow, Will Smith & her childhood hero & crush Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. However, Lilly’s most popular sketches are of her parents Manjeet & Parmanjeet Singh.
They are Eddie Murphy-Esque, Nutty Professor-inspired videos where Lilly plays her parents, where her mother expresses her disappointments in Lilly, as well as her strict Indian beliefs, traditions & morals that she tries to instil in Lilly, while her father seems to be the more easy-going of the 2. When she introduced her REAL parents in one of her videos to her fans, they didn’t seem as Lilly embellished in her spoof videos of them but in hindsight, it’s Lilly’s view of traditional Indian parents as a whole.
Due to the success of her videos, Forbes ranked Lilly as the highest-earning YouTuber. She also booked roles & cameos in movies & television shows such as Ice Age: Collision Course, Life In Pieces, Bizaardvark & Fahrenheit 451. She then caught the attention of NBC executives & booked a Late Night Talk Show called: A Little Late with Lilly Singh. The show lasted 2 seasons, but not without its share of harsh critics. In 2020, went on to do 2 shows for NBC affiliated streaming service network Peacock called Sketchy Times with Lilly Singh. Lilly also signed a deal with Kenya Barris to do a show with Netflix.
