Have you noticed a set of people who claim to be formally educated who act uneducated? Well, I have, and it makes me ponder on this whole formal education thing.
Call me a cynic, but I just can't help but feel heartbroken at the sight of 'formally educated' people who do less than those who haven't got the opportunity of formal education, especially in a higher institution(Universities/Colleges). Before you misunderstand this, here's what I mean;
Isn't formal education supposed to make us more eager to change our environment? I mean look for better ways to do things than they were done before? Yet, you see these sets of formally educated people continue in unproductive archaic ways. Why is this?
Forgive me if I blame our current educational system, but somehow I feel it has a role to play, even if in part. 'An apple does not fall far from the tree', so these people are a product of what they've been taught as well as the methods that have been used to instil knowledge into them during the course of their education.
Sometimes, they go as far as undermining the novel ways introduced in their society, because 'formal education has indirectly hindered their minds from taking in these new thought processes. How Ironic!
This is not to imply that every new idea or innovation must come only from those formally educated, rather this means a formally educated person should be more open-minded, quicker to sit and think through what he or she is introduced to and appreciate the fineness that comes with years of gaining new knowledge.
