What it's like to be an Overthinker?

Overthinker | 16th July 2022 | Virtual Wire

You finished your studies at midnight and decided to go back to sleep. Your eyes are closed, but your mind is replaying events from the previous year.

You are turning your body from side to side to get rid of that thought. That one embarrassing moment is troubling you. Your mind is continuously wondering about the moment that happened a year ago. After a lot of turning the body right to left, left to right, and closing and opening the eyes. You give up. The guilt starts throbbing you so hard that you just want to run away somewhere. Various questions began to arise in your mind, like "why did "I" do that? Why am I like this? Why am I being a jerk at that moment? What would my friend think of it? Am I not good enough? If I could get a chance to rectify the situation, wouldn't it be different today? ", etc., etc. How many of you have experienced this? Don't worry, I can understand how it feels.

No matter how much I try to stop my mind from thinking of an embarrassing moment, it creates more uneasy moments from the past. It's hard. And trust me, suggestions like "stop overthinking" are not helpful. I don't know why we overthinkers are so underconfident about certain aspects. I hate myself for wasting my energy thinking about unnecessary stuff that has nothing to do with my present. Overthinking is a problem when your brain is playing tricks on you. It will make you realise that you are fragile and can't do anything. If you are thinking about something positive, then it is good. But the moment you allow your brain to take you back to that moment for what you did in the last 5 years, then it is sick.

See, we will never get rid of overthinking in our lives. It will remain with us forever. If you are expecting to get solutions to overthinking from this blog, you are wrong. I am not a psychologist or neurologist who can give you a remedy for this problem. And no matter how many blogs you read about "getting rid of overthinking," you will never find the solutions to your problems. Because your mind will not let you accept certain things unless you are willing to do them. So you can see it's a tit-for-tat situation.

You can either accept your mistake or you can simply let it go. It is your choice. There is nothing you can do about what you have done the last time. Thinking about that circumstance can only drain your energy. I know it's hard for the first time. But as I have told you already, it is up to you. If you want to stop thinking about useless stuff, you need to push yourself a little bit. Find some things that can distract you from overthinking. It can be anything. In the end, accept the mistakes that cause you to overthink and learn from them to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
